for an inspiring conversation about how storytelling connects us across generations—and why capturing stories now matters more than ever.

In this interactive session, Sky will explore how personal stories—shared across age and experience—can break down stereotypes, build empathy, and create lasting bonds.

Sky’s acclaimed PBS documentary Lives Well Lived (watch the trailer) and her new book Lives Well Lived — GENERATIONS (link highlight the wisdom and resilience of older adults and showcase how meaningful intergenerational relationships can shift our perspective on aging, identity, and purpose.

"Everyone has a story to tell if you take the time to listen."

 - Sky Bergman

What Sky will share with us:

She'll share the questions that get to the heart of a person’s journey and provide simple ways to begin capturing meaningful conversations. As a special part of the session, Sky will also debut exclusive sneak previews from her newest film projects.

Whether you’re looking to capture a parent’s story, reconnect across generations, or simply be inspired, this conversation will spark your curiosity and offer tools to deepen the stories in your own life. Come ready to listen, reflect, and perhaps even share.

"The more personal the story, the more universal it becomes"

About this month’s Spotlight presenter, Sky Bergman

Sky Bergman is an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, author, and educator. Her documentary Lives Well Lived—now airing on PBS, iTunes, Apple TV, and Kanopy—celebrates the wit and wisdom of adults aged 75 to 100+. Her follow-up book, Lives Well Lived — GENERATIONS, expands on the film by sharing the life lessons and wisdom of those she interviewed, while also highlighting intergenerational programs that challenge ageism and foster meaningful connections.

Now in her “third act” after a 30-year career as a professor of photography and video at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Sky is focused on storytelling that uplifts, educates, and unites. Her current projects—The Mochi Movie, The Prime Time Band, and The Jollytologist®—explore how food, music, and laughter preserve culture, build community, and connect us across time.

Sky’s passion remains clear:

Using storytelling to foster empathy, spark dialogue, and connect us across generations.
